about

In EMBA Vol 1, Moto Kiatu has done a selection of six artists from different regions of Africa and its diaspora with different backgrounds to represent the spirit of the project. EMBA is the connection point between Mozambique, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Portugal, Poland, Germany and Spain. These in-edit tracks are the celebration of the mixture and the musical traditions of the most consolidated and emerging artists in the African electronic music scene. Electronic Music Began in Africa.

Iyeza - Batuk
The hard hitting beat is a no-holds-bar ode to the spirit of healing. Iyeza (which translates as 'the medicine/cure') is called for love to be the cure. Typical of South African electronic music, the song is highly rhythmic, high energy with classic South African chanting matched with one of the hardest basslines of the year.

Moz we on - Freak De L’Afrique ft. Ellputo
Moz we on (Awoza) is an international collaboration between Mozambique’s finest Ellputo and Rapper Lay Lizzy and the Berlin based crew Freak de l’Afrique.
This exciting Afro House & Hip Hop fusion was created when the artists met last year in Maputo.

Afro Daddy (Accra to Nai) - DJ Mura K.E. ft. Mawcom
It’s a high tempo gqom track heavily driven by drums, percussions and synths. It features vocals from an artist known as Mawcom from Ghana who is currently based in South Africa.
The hook has a repeatedly phrase ‘Hakuna Kulala’ which means no sleeping, which is a sure indication that it’s a hype song to get you in a party mood'

Huambo 93 - DJ N.K.
This track talks about the Angolan Civil War in 93’, specifically in Huambo (South of Angola). His mom and wife were refugees from South of Angola, and they struggled to survive and escape alive at that time. This music starts in the war zone, when MPLA fights UNITA outside of the city in an attempt to earn more enemy room. After this part, you listen to a man talk about killings, hunger, misery and the actual situation. The third part of the song is when the war arrives in his wife's village and the local people start to scream because someone dropped a bomb on a building full on chidreans. His purpose with this song is to remind us about these tragic moments, to never happen again.

Juntos (Remix) - Lua Preta
It’s an in-edit remix that Lua Preta performs live and it has never been put out in any other form. "Juntos união" means "together union, together united” and this beat now sees the light.

Yele - Sensei Lo
Afro Electronic Fusion expressing the rich diversity in West African languages and culture. It means one who has a strong desire for freedom (mental, physical and spiritual) and in some places it means a girl with a very strong IQ. Basically it depicts strength which is translated through the emotion of dance, which is the purpose of everything.
